Abstract
The article deals with Luigi Pirandello's dialectal production on the basis of Even-Zohar polysystem theory. It summarizes the author's theoretical writings on the question of the literary language in Italy, on dialectality and on translation and analyzes the reception of Pirandello's dialectal theater in Italy in the early twentieth century.
In the second part the article applies the theories of literary polysystems to the reception of Pirandello's dramaturgy in the Czech language throughout the twentieth century.
