The paper analyses the history and development of the economics in Czechoslovakia during the normalisation era and its role in the system of communist dictatorship. It is based on the analysis of the history of the Economic Institute, the most important institution of theoretical research in a field of the economics in Czechoslovakia.
The paper aims to examine the paradigms of the contemporary Czechoslovak economics and focuses on their relevance for the era of post-communist economic transformation, which was carried out by many former employees of the institute. Its main hypothesis focuses on the importance of the "system analysis" theory, which enabled the economists to develop their expert knowledge and also had a strong potential to confirm the legitimacy of the communist rule.
