Models of mind that are implied by cognitive science

Abstract

In the history of cognitive science were proposed two competing models of mind: functionalist and neural model. The functionalist model of mind is a pure symbol manipulation (computation).

This model has two versions: mind is computer that is based on conscious manipulation of external data, and mind as innate system of knowledge that is based on unconscious manipulation of mostly internal data. Psychological models of mind developed as an alternative, and are based on neural accounts of "mind": neural networks, embodied mind, distributed mind and social/collective mind.
