"Standard workers are from here, normal people": Ethnoracial closure and industrial organisation of cheap labour in the Czech Republic

Abstract

This paper examines ethnoracial boundaries within the context of flexible production in the Czech city of Pilsen. The goal is to discuss the conditions for the contemporary constitution of "ethnoracial subjectivities" within this particular context.

The primary focus is on the ideological production of the identity of a "normal citizen" and a "standard worker", and the associated struggles to fix these definitions by establishing homogenis-ing racialised myths of unskilled labour.
