Abstract

The chapter presents the origin and history of publication of Heine's Harz Journey in the context of the poet's biography and contemporary culture and politics in the German states. It summarizes the existing essential lines of the reception of literary travelogue, which has become one of the cornerstones of the modern definition of the genre.
