Preparing for aging - conceptualization of the issue

Abstract

The continuous aging of the whole society and the resulting impacts have long been at the center of attention of both the professional and general public, with the negative impacts of this trend being discussed. Aging and old age are usually associated with many stereotypes, and this whole life stage is seen as a period of decline, passivity, dependence and overall regression.

On the other hand, a gradual transformation of this perspective can be seen, highlighting the challenges and opportunities generated by this trend in different contexts. Constructs such as active, healthy, or successful aging become an integral part of public policies, and so the paradigm petrifying the third age as a non-productive and inactive period is continually changing.

Nevertheless, one of the fundamental assumptions determining the implementation of the abovementioned concepts is the preparation and successful implementation of a strategy for preparing for aging, both at the social and individual levels. This text is focused on the basic conceptualization of this topic, especially on the definition and analysis of the area of preparation for aging in terms of conceptual, strategic and last but not least content orientation.

Some crisis moments and forecasts of the potential development of the whole sphere will also be reflected.
