Background | The prevalence of hazardous alcohol use among adolescents has increased in recent years. Adolescent's behaviour is largely influenced by the media.

This can have an impact on both whether adolescents think about alcohol use and in what way. Objectives | The aim of this work was to analyse the portrayal of hazardous alcohol use among adolescents in print and online media.

Methods | The research was conducted by means of media content analysis of the print and online media. A total of 188 review articles published from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2018 were analysed.

Sample | The research sample consisted of all the review articles published from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2018 which included the keywords "alcohol" and "adolescents" in any order and a maximum of 10 words apart. Results | Out of the total number of review articles (188), 175 were published in the online media and 13 in the print media.

Significantly large numbers of the review articles were from 2018 (50) and 2015 (48). Both the print and media review articles under study were most likely to be published as part of political and regional coverage.

The majority of the reports covered the prevention of alcohol use among adolescents, with references to unruly public behaviour and the violation of quiet hours. The database also showed people's views on alcohol use among adolescents in blogs or online discussions.

Conclusions | The relevant review articles most often refer to various instances of disorderly conduct and prevention, while the health, social, and economic impacts of hazardous alcohol use among adolescents appear to receive less media attention.
