Abstract

The German-language authors Ilma Rakusa and Irena Brežná address in their literary and essayistic texts the conflict or reconciliation of worlds on either side of the imaginary Iron Curtain. The characters in many of their texts are (post)adolescents, migrants, and also female - this results in a triple experience of foreignness and provocation.

Clothes and the vestimentary performance have a special meaning here. According to Gertrud Lehnert, the vestimentary practice has an influence on social structures and produces spatiotemporal dynamics which, in the intercultural context, can lead to even more complex interdependencies.

This paper discusses the applicability of the dispositifs developed by Andreas Kraß for the vestimentary poetics of medieval literature.
