Liturgy and communication

Publication at Hussite Theological Faculty |
2019

Abstract

This monograph's chapter deals with verbal and nonverbal communication within the context of a liturgical celebration. First, it presents a concept of God's differentiated presence in the world, the dialogical structure of this presence, and speech as its the primordial medium.

Then, it illuminates communication between God and human beings in the liturgy, presenting the six linguistic sub-registers of worship, proposed by G. Wainwright (adoration, proclamation, thanksgiving, commitment, petition/intercession, expectation), and a selection of the most general liturgical signs and gestures.
