Abstract
Falls are adverse events and they can do a harm of patients. Falls are more risky for elderly and about 25 % of visitors to emergency department are as a result of the fall and about one quarter of them are admitted to the medical ward.
Fall is an multifactorial event and there are many risk factors influenceable and non-influenceable, internal and external ones. Medicine are part of influenceable risk factors.
The goal is to introduce general view on risk minimization management, to explain theory of three pillars in relationship to medicines with fall potential and to of fall and to identify their risk factors. We linked falls to different types of ADR according WHO classification and focussed on medicine specific risk factors of falls.
We analysed medicine causing vertigo, confusing, changes of sensoric organs and another pathophysiologic changes to participate in drug related fall. We applied three pillars theory for it.
Conclusions: Specialist for drug related problems needs to know good theory of three pillars of ADR. Good knowledge about pathophysiology of falls and way which tool of drug use is necessary to understand to minimize risk of fall as well.
This knowledge can be useful and used for risk minimization algorithm SAFE.
