From arithmetic to algebra at the secondary school

Abstract

The aim of the author is to introduce several activities that connect these two disciplines. Individual activities focus on the use of algebraic equations for specific calculations within arithmetic.

The activities help to bridge the boundary between the two disciplines, try to show on practical tasks what is the meaning and practical use of the patterns that pupils learn in algebra. Individual tasks are a suitable tool for practicing, but also for diagnosing the current understanding of pupils.
