The dynamics of the infiltration of adjective forms in the passive participles at the beginning of the 21st century

Abstract

Research conducted on the material of the linguistic corpus of Czech has confi rmed that the representation of the short forms of passive participles in the written language over the last 25 years has been consistently decreasing in all types of passive constructions. Passive participles are increasingly perceived as a literary expression, while long (adjective) forms are increasingly common in passive constructions.

The long (adjective) forms of the participles over the past decade have outweighed the short shapes in the 1st person sg. animate masculine, and will soon prevail too in the 3rd. person sg. masculine. This only shows how dynamic the process is.
