Living at the Iron Gates: New research on the settlement pattern in the Bactria - Sogdiana borderlands.

Abstract
The paper presents an overview of the results of recent research of the settlement patterns in southern Central Asia. Czech-Uzbek team conducted both extensive and intensive surface survey gradually in three regions of southern Uzbekistan (from 2008 to 2018) with different type of landscape.
In this paper we examine idividual features of the settlement pattern development in all three regions, as well as comparison between them with apecial attention paid to the most visible periods (seen from the point of view of thw archaeological record), i.e. the periods, for those we have much more archaeo-spatial data.
