Abstract

The paper deals with the emergence of state formations in the southern part of Central Asia after the fall of the Hellenistic empires, especially in relation to modern definitions of the state and understanding its embryonic phase - the protostate. As a model, we discuss the emerging Kushan empire, respectively. tribe union of Yuezhi and its establishment on the territory of ancient Bactria in the last century BC.
