Abstract

Bile acids are amphipathic biomolecules that play various important roles in human. They act as emulsifying agents, possess antimicrobial properties and can also be used as biomarkers of various liver diseases/damage.

Concentration levels of bile acids in various tissues also serve as an indicator of the rate of their biosynthesis. There are various methods to determine bile acids.

However, they all suffer from shortcomings to some extent. Therefore, the presented approach employing chemical activation of primary bile acids through dehydration with a strong acid (HClO4) after SPE could pose a plausible alternative to the currently employed methods.
