Abstract
What is the value of the landscape? What testimony of medieval society brings archeology? Interviews with Professor Jan Klápště, a leading European archaeologist of the Middle Ages, touch upon a wide range of issues linking the Middle Ages to the present. The book is a compelling testimony to a lifelong quest for ways to understand the transformations of medieval society and landscape.
However, as we only ask questions of the past that are relevant to us, the interviews and colorful kaleidoscope offer meetings with personalities that influenced Jan Klápště and with the problems that move the world today, and thus with our images of history.
