Science frequently ascribes minor significance to human olfaction. Nevertheless, this might be due to low reliance on smells in the current western cultures in general.
The aim of this paper is to introduce several ethnographic studies exploring communities where olfaction plays central role in the local cosmologies. Similarly, this applies to language richness and use of abstract terms for olfactory expressions.
Finally, I propose how anthropology of senses might serve as a bridge between humanities and behavioural sciences.
