2019

Abstract

The third part in the series on the history of biological sciences over the past 100 years focuses on zoology and associated fields in the interwar period and during the war. It is based on the situations of the two Czech zoological schools (of Antonín Frič and František Vejdovský), and focuses on developments in general and systematic zoology (Alois Mrázek, Julius Komárek), parasitology (Otto Jírovec), entomology (Jan Obenberger), hydrobiology and other specializations, together with input from German zoologists (Carl Isidor Cori).

It also recalls the beginnings of the zoological gardens in Liberec and Prague, as well as other forms of extensive popularization of zoological knowledge (Jiří Janda).
