Abstract
The lecture focused on the foundation and development of the botanical garden as a part of Prague University. It provides a summary of the importance of the book culture for the history of the university, for biographies of professors of botany and for evaluation of cooperation between the city and the university concerning the establishment and use of the botanical garden in the city of Prague in 1775 - 1945.
