Between Geopolitics and Ideology: On Václav Klaus's Foreign Policy Discourse

Abstract

The concepts of geopolitical and anti-geopolitical thinking are used in the analysis of academic debates. Drulák however brought up their usefulness for the study of practical political discourse.

The present paper uses the concepts of geopolitical and anti-geopolitical thinking to analyse the foreign-policy discourse of Václav Klaus. The analysis concludes that in spite of using some geopolitically or realistically sounding arguments, Klaus' discourse is primarily ideologically driven.

Subsequently, the paper reflects about the possible consequences of such blending of argumentative logics in practical foreign-policy discourse for the theoretical discourse.
