Expert report on interdisciplinary approaches in education, arts and sustainable development

Publication

Abstract

This document emphasizes the importance of imagination in creating alternatives to dystopian images of the future. We emphasize the importance of the arts for developing alternative visions of the future and explore how the education system can provide creative learning opportunities to strengthen young people's ability to anticipate and create alternative sustainable futures.

We provide an overview of competences for education for sustainable development and creative habits of mind as described in the literature, and analyze the overlaps and opportunities this offers. We will focus primarily on the theory and methods of creative learning to develop the ability to envision alternative futures, develop collaborative and decision-making skills and create a sustainable future actively.

The report aims to provide theoretical and practical guidance for educational professionals in sustainability and the arts, i.e. for educators, artists, social scientists, public administrators and active citizens.
