The impact of news content on mental health

Publication |
2020

Abstract

Negative impact of media news on mental health and subjective well-being is increasingly recognized as a serious social and health problem. The article briefly summarizes relevant research and outlines main issues for empirical investigation in this area.

It introduces the model of epidemiology of representation as a theoretical framework for such research. The key psychological and neural mechanisms, through which news contents are perceived and assimilated and through which mental health is affected, are then discussed.
