Abstract

Apart from protection against pathogens immunoglobulins have also very important immunomodulatory effect, which is involved in a broad scale of immune mechanisms including innate as well as adaptive immunity. Thus, immunoglobulin therapy is indicated in both primary immunodeficiencies with impaired production of antibodies as well as broad spectrum of autoimmune diseases including systemic connective tissue diseases, autoimmune cytopenia or inflammatory nerve disorders.

High-dose intravenous immunoglobulins are indicated in the most of these conditions. However, there are new proofs for use of subcutaneous immunoglobulins in some of these diagnoses.

In the following review we are providing summary of up-to-date knowledge of novelties regarding the use of immunoglobulins in a therapy of autoimmune diseases.
