The contribution evaluates how the early modern public debate attributed "identity" to the princely offspring. Wilhelm Heinrich of Brandenburg was seen primarily as a member of the House of Hohenzollern by the Province of Holland and therefore considered a threat to the Peace.

The partisans of the stadholder family and the broader public, however, defined him as a full member of the House of Orange-Nassau. As a consequence of this, his christening ceremony caused a severe political conflict in the Dutch Republic.
