Quality and risk management of psychiatric care

Abstract

Psychiatric care is currently being reformed and we are increasingly learning about various aspects of mental health from the media. The professional public makes considerable efforts to destigmatize psychiatry.

The fundamental issue of quality and safety in this area is also at the center of attention. At the same time, psychiatric care is experiencing many hardships and misunderstandings on the part of the general public and professionals.

It has a very uncertain legislative framework and is heavily underfunded. This is despite the fact that the consumption of neuropsychopharmaceuticals shows an increasing trend and inpatient and outpatient capacities are full.

The increase in the number of consumers of care also brings with it a burden in the form of lawsuits, where often the only support that remains for healthcare professionals is properly maintained documentation. Risk management and monitoring the quality of health care is an important part of the care of psychiatric patients.

Like the management of adverse events in healthcare, this topic is currently more than relevant. The issue of quality and safety in this area is related to the ongoing reform of psychiatric care.
