Process for preparing manganese nanoparticles in a melt

Publication

Abstract

A process for preparing manganite nanoparticles of the general formula Ln(1-x)M(x)MnO(3) in a melt, where x is 0 to 0.5, Ln denotes a rare earth metal cation and M denotes an alkaline earth metal cation with a particle size of 10 to 100 nanometers, when - in the first step, the mixture of rare earth metal nitrates, alkaline earth metals and manganese nitrate is melted in a nitrite melt or a mixture of alkali metal nitrite and nitrate at 470 °C to 600 °C, while stirring the melt; and during permanent mixing of melt - a second hydrous silica protective layer is applied to the nanoparticles formed in the first step; - in the third step, the nanoparticles with a continuous hydrous silica protective layer of hydrated silica is subjected to a heat treatment in the presence of air at a temperature ranging from 600 °C to 800 °C for at least 3 hours; and - in the fourth step, the protective layer of hydrated silica is removed.
