Assessing the Accuracy of Ultrasound-Guided Needle Placement in Sacroiliac Joint Injections

Abstract

We have read the article by De Luigi et al.1 with interest. The article describes an important study evaluating the accuracy of needle placement in sacroiliac joint injections using ultrasound (US) guidance.

Their results showed very promising needle placement accuracy upon confirmation of fluoroscopic arthrogram. We congratulate the authors for their effort in drawing attention to the utility of US guidance for sacroiliac joint injections.

We strongly agree with the authors that (because of several reasons also/already mentioned in their article) US guidance should overweigh computed tomography- or fluoroscopy-guided interventions in the daily clinical practice of musculoskeletal medicine.
