Abstract

The American painter Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York and first became famous for his graffiti. He began painting brightly colored neo-expressionist canvases, following African art.

Thanks to his mother, he studied, read the works of symbolists in French, Spanish and English, and studied history and mythology. He befriended Andy Warhol, with whom he created a number of joint paintings.

He died very young, and yet left a strong mark on world painting. The lecture is realized for the cultural public within the third role of the university in the original author's cycle Artist and Man.
