Conference report: Translation and Interpreting Forum Olomouc 2019: Teaching Translation vs. Training Translators

Abstract

This report describes the fifth edition of the Translation and Interpreting Forum Olomouc conference held on 15 and 16 November 2019 at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University of Olomouc. The 2019 conference theme Teaching Translation vs.

Training Translators focused mainly on issues related to professional training of translators and interpreters, namely, the role of theory and practice in translators and interpreters training, the use of new technology in the classroom, and the skills and competences which translators and interpreters starting in the profession should acquire before entering the labour market. Both days of the conference offered many notable presentations on other current topics, such as, for example, literary translation, L2 translation (also referred to as non-native translation), and the use of translation in language teaching.

The featured guest speakers for TIFO 2019 were Luc van Doorslaer and Chris Durban.
