Measuring consistency of responding - development of the method

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

We expect that personal integrity corresponds to consistency in verbal responses. The topic of the study is response consistency to questionnaire items with the aim to create the first version of the method that would measure response consistency.

The authors describe the development of the method and follow-up changes in number of items, in the response scale and in the method evaluation in nine steps. Pilot studies on general population, university students, foreigners and people with cognitive deficits have enabled to gradually improve the method.

The final 48 items version of the method measures the consistency of answering in the area of personality, neutral information, social desirability and counterproductive behavior. Preliminary results in accordance to the original assumptions show the highest degree of response consistency in neutral information category, decreasing in personality questions, social desirability and low response consistency in counterproductive behavior category.

We expect the incorporation of the method in the credibility assessment and intraindividual variability of responses.
