Abstract

Tommaso di ser Giovanni di Mone Cassai zv. Masaccio is considered the founder of Renaissance painting.

In his youth, he met the sculptor Donatello and the architect Bruneleschi in Florence. They introduced him to anatomy and linear perspective, and he applied both in painting together with an in-depth capture of emotion.

He painted frescoes in the chapel of Brancacci and the illusive St. Trinity in the church of S.

Maria Novella before leaving Florence for Pisa and Rome.
