The Renaissance Sicilian painter Antonello da Messina met Jan van Eyck's paintings in Colantonio's workshop in Naples and then worked in Messina. He set out on a ship to Venice, applying the accepted Dutch illusory realism using the technique of oil painting on panel paintings, especially portraits and Marian and Christological scenes, which influenced both Venetian and Italian painting.
Under Bishop Charles of Lichtenstein-Castelcorn, Antonell's brilliant St. Sebastian since 1673 Archbishop's Palace in Olomouc.
Under Archbishop Rudolf of Habsburg, he was sold and went to Dresden, where he remained the pride of the collection.
