Publication at Faculty of Education |

Abstract

Adverse Childhood Experiences have a significant impact on child's development and are linked to serious physical and mental health problems throughout the lifespan. Child victims of adverse events often experience behavioral, emotional and educational difficulties interfering with their potential academic and personal achievements.

Based on research findings of a high prevalence of such events, a wide approach shall be accepted to provide support for all children, regardless their trauma history. School Mental Health services together with a Multi-tiered System of Support can be promoted within an Interconnected Systems Framework, to allow aligning of mental health support with educational system on a district community level.

The aim of this theoretical study is to introduce types of Adverse Childhood Experiences, their effect on children development and possibilities to mitigate their negative impacts both on individual and school-wide level.
