Besides lymph nodes and distant metastases detection, the key-information in staging of the prostatic carcinoma, is the evaluation of the so-called extracapsular extension and the seminal vesicle invasions. The most important images are T2 turbo/fast spin echo sequences in the trans-axial and sagittal planes, diffusion weighted images with high-b value and apparent diffusion coefficient maps (ADC), pharmacokinetical maps of iAUC or Ktrans or the fusion with the metabolic maps of positron emission tomography in hybrid PET/MRI.
The essential findings are as followed: Asymmetrical thickening of the neurovascular bundle, infiltration of the periprostatic fatty tissue, and bulging of the tumorous tissue above the niveau of the prostate.
