Abstract
This article describes the character of the musical tradition of Hasidic Jews - which is the singing of niggunim, including a brief classiϐication of the meaning and function of niggunim. The main topic of this article is women's singing of niggunim.
The text deals with questions concerning the existence of this phenomenon and concerning the form, characteristics and other peculiarities of women's singing which are mainly derived from the status of woman in orthodox Judaism, and concerning its spiritual signiϐicance too.
