Abstract
Czech linguistics olympiad, a high school scientific olympiad, and the genre of linguistic problems are introduced in the paper. Using a practical example of one such linguistic problem, I show the ways in which this genre may be used to introduce the rationale and methods of linguistic analysis and language typology to students as well as its applicability in foreign language teaching, an area where students may benefit from linguistic problems as a means of introduction of various language categories and structures that is both more natural and entertaining than traditional teaching methods.
