Abstract

opulism, migration, and the virtual world. Populism is a political ideology that is currently riding the wave of contemporary politics.

An increasing number of populist parties and leaders has been identified in national parliaments across several countries and their rhetoric, currently often anti-immigrant, is steadily rising in popularity. Behind their success also lies the utilisation of the internet and social media that enables swift and effective spreading of manipulative populist narratives online.

Such actions may potentially have a far-reaching impact on fundamental aspects of liberal democracy.
