The chapter deals with the historical context of the migration policy of the states of the European Union with regard to the position of children in the educational system of selected states. It attempts to explain how, in the context of the 2015 migration crisis, European countries are choosing diverse refugee reception strategies, discussing the impact of their historical migration experience in the second half of the 20th century.

It is the migration experience of states that greatly influences the public opinion of immigrant states and also their policy towards refugees. Together with economic and political motives, it played the most important role in choosing the destination of refugees during the migration crisis.

Finally, the relationship between immigration policy and the success of immigrant children in the educational process is addressed.
