Borders and the Life in the Limitless According to Adrienne von Speyr

Publication at Protestant Theological Faculty, Catholic Theological Faculty |
2020

Abstract

The idea of overcoming human limits vis-a-vis transcendence is a frequent theme of the work by Adrienne von Speyr. The aim of the paper is to show how this Swiss medical doctor and Catholic mystic grasps human experience of being confined by the basic anthropological borders of limited possibilities and death while being invited to the participation in the limitless and eternal.

Firstly, the authors describe this basic human condition from the perspective of the story of creation and fall. Secondly, the article sketches the way how Christ mediates between the eternal Father and mortal human beings in order to proceed to the theme of salvation of men, which is understood as the invitation to the participation in the love of the Triune God.

Finally, the article describes the basic features of the human life which follows such path.
