WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART AND CZECH MUSICIANS IN THE PERIODICAL SVOBODNÝ ZEDNÁŘ - FREE MASON (1925-1938)
Abstract
The aim of this study is to present and analyse mentions of W. A.
Mozart in the periodical Svobodný zednář - Free Mason (1925-1938). All the occurrences of the name of the genial composer witness about a great esteem that Mozart had in the eyes of the Czech Free Masons during the First Republic.
There are very interesting mentions of denigrations spread by the Nazis that Free Masons might have caused Mozart's death. The personage of Mozart played a role of a bridge between the Czech and the German Free Masons in the First Czechoslovak Republic.
From the German side, the professor of musicology Paul Nettl stands out, while from the Czech side, Antonín Hartl a member of the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church [CČs(H)] played an important role in common encounters on Mozartian themes.
