Abstract

The Budeč Stronghold (Kladno district) was an important regional center of the Přemyslids' era. Due to references in early hagiographies of St.

Wenceslas, the stronghold gained the attention of chroniclers over centuries. Thus, Budeč has remained in the awareness of both, the professional and non-professional public, and belongs to the best examined early medieval sites in the country.

Besides scientific knowledge, there is another patron of the local historical memory, the Stt. Peter and Paul Rotunda located in the centre of the stronghold.

The rotunda represents the oldest church building in Bohemia and still stands in the center of annual pilgrimage at St. Wenceslas' Day.
