Representing cancer in humans: Reviving the similarity account of scientific representation

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

This paper argues for two things. First, the sharp distinction between representation and accurate representation does not hold in cases to be discussed below.

Rather, the representational relation seems to be established and maintained on the basis of similarity considerations. Second, it elaborates how similarity plays its role.

Both of these claims are defended by examining a biomedical case study of developing animal models in the context of cancer immunotherapy.
