Sleep and wake disorders

Abstract

Since the publication of the first edition of the monograph Sleep and Wake Disorders in 1997 and in 2007 respectively, a lot of progress has been made to date including a new International Classification of Sleep Disorders, and hence the need for the third edition (ICSD-3) gained relevance. This book is a practical manual for diagnosis and management of sleep disorders in general, targeting not only sleep disorders researches, bur general practioners and/ or specialists in different fields of medicine namely neurologists, pneumologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, cardiologists, ENT specialists and dentists.TThe first part of the monograph introduces a history of sleep medicine and sleep physiology in more detail and presents examination methods in sleep medicine and also shows curernt classification of sleep disorders.

In the next part, the main groups of sleep disorders such as insomnias, sleep related breathing disortders, central hypersomnias, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias and disorders with abnormal movements in sleep are presented in detail in separate chapters. Following five chapters discribe the most important sleep disturbances in neurological, psychiatric, cardiological, pneumological and developmental diseases.

The last chapter is devoted to pharmacological treatment.
