"Resilience of de-militarized borderland: Iron Curtain heritage in Aš region"

Abstract

For more than 40 years, every-day life in Aš region was highly affected by presence of the strictly closed borderland zone. After the collapse of Iron Curtain, military controlled area ceased to exist and special military regulations were cancelled.

Nevertheless, military objects, infrastructure, communications and constructions remained on place. Conference presentation introduced the process of re-vitalization of both social and cultural life of the region as well as the re-vitalization of countryside affected by military architecture.

It was analyzed how (in)tangible heritage of Iron Curtain is percieved, approached and used by local community in these ongoing processes, with the special attention to the phenomena of resilience of local community.
