Abstract

This contribution in the catalogue of the international film festival CineFest (held in November 2019 in Hamburg) is an introduction to the screenings of Czechoslovak films: Až přijde kocour (Vojtěch Jasný, 1963), Prípad Barnabáš Kos (Peter Solan, 1964), Nezvaný host (Vlastimil Venclík, 1969) and Evžen mezi námi (Petr Nýdrle, 1981). It introduces the historical and cultural context in which these films were made, and more broadly presents the forms of satire in Czechoslovak cinema from the 1920s to the 1980s.
