Abstract

A critical review of the biography of the Italian monk and humanist Ambrogio Traversari (1386-1439) by Jan Stejskal. The author presents Traversari's monastic education, his work as a translator, and his reform efforts in the office of General Superior of the Camaldolese congregation.

The final part of the biography is devoted to Traversari as the papal envoy at the Church councils in Basel, Ferrara and Florence.
