The monograph presents results of three-years research project within which the subjective opinions of mothers on their children with disability were analyzed. The studied group consisted of 60 mothers of children with cerebral palsy, 75 mothers of children with intellectual disabilities, 20 adoptive mothers of children with various types of disabilities and 50 mothers of non-disabled children.
For the research the method of semi-structured interview was used. The results of the qualitative analysis proved that mothers are able to recognize in their children with disability a lot of good and strong points, in particular those, which make mutual understanding and communication easier.
They also appreciate their children?s sensitiveness and good-heartedness. Mothers saw negative qualities and manifestations of two kinds: generally refused and unpleasant qualities and manifestations, but also those that are somehow connected with basic handicaps.
