Frantuguese: language of Portuguese emigrants in France

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2016

Abstract

Despite the fact that Portuguese is one of the most spoken languages in the world, there is one variant missing in standard classifications: a variant created due to the contact of both Portuguese and French languages, used by Portuguese emigrants in France and their descendents. From the linguistic point of view, Frantufuese consists of the juxtaposition or alternation of several linguistic codes in a single communication.

Especially the vocabulary contains many lexical and semantic loanwords, but the grammar was also affected.
