Abstract
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive and quick technique commonly used in ophthalmology to get a detailed view of retinal structures. The retina as an anterior part of the visual tract is unique in studies of the central nervous system in that it contains unmyelinated axonal and neuronal structures accessible to repeated imaging.
To build a solid foundation for OCT as a new imaging technique in neurology, this book offers to readers an introduction to the imaging technique, retinal structures, and imaging protocols as well as a summary of findings in optic neuritis, multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, and selected neurodegenerative diseases. We hope that this first Czech book on OCT in neurology will promote the value of OCT of the retina outside of ophthalmology and stimulate new collaborations between neurologists and ophthalmologists.
