Abstract

Among the texts known to the Slavs and ascribed to Athanasius of Alexandria there are six homilies that formed part of a special type of 14th century Bulgarian homiliaries, i.e. the so-called Novoizvodnye Triodion Panegyrics. This study shows that to have these many texts of Athanasius within one miscellany is unusual both for the known Greek homiliaries and for the earliest Slavonic miscellanies, and it is suggested that this fact points to a unique feature of the Novoizvodnye Panegyrics.

The authors examine each of the six homilies and indicate their Greek originals. One specific Greek miscellany is found to be partly corresponding to the type of Novoizvodny Triodion Panegyrics that contains a similar corpus of Pseudo-Athanasian texts and could be one of its possible sources.
